Lady Bulldogs blank South Dearborn in tennis

BATESVILLE — The Batesville High School varsity tennis team improved to 3-1 on the season with a convincing victory over South Dearborn.

Another windy evening greeted the Lady Bulldogs, but it did not seem to slow them down. Batesville defeated the Lady Knights by a score of 5-0.

As a team, the Lady Bulldogs gave up just 12 games over 10 sets.

Batesville senior Ellen Heppner picked up a straight set win over Shelby Yoe at No. 1 singles. Heppner won the first set 6-2 and followed with a 6-4 victory in the second.

Lydia Olsen and Sarah Hoseus completed the sweep in the singles play with wins at No. 2 and 3 singles, respectively. Olsen defeated Rae Luhrsen 6-1, 6-0, while Hoseus beat Carissa Flanagan 6-1, 6-2.

The No. 1 doubles team of Ali Meyer and Emily Helvie was a 6-0, 6-1 winner over Morgan Bischoff and Kourtney Stevens.

At No. 2 doubles, Brooke Bradford and Kelli Hartman topped Carly Ochs and Brianna Upton 6-0, 6-1.

The Batesville junior varsity remained undefeated on the season with a 5-0 victory over the Lady Knights.

Emily Shaw and Karsen Worthington won in singles play. Doubles matches were won by Erin Longstreth/Macy Simon, Gabby Cooper/Jenna Harmeyer and Grace Heppner/Jasmin Peemoeller.
