Franklin County loses to No. 1 Olympians

— The tournament run  in football by the Franklin County Wildcats came to an end Friday night with a 36-14 loss to Columbus East in the championship round Sectional No. 15.

The Olympians (12-0) entered the championship game undefeated and ranked No. 1 in Class 4A.

The Wildcats held their ground in the first quarter. A 10 yard safety by East’s Brock Patterson proved to be the only points as the Olympians entered the second quarter with a 2-0 advantage.

The East defense stepped up again and produced the next score of the game. Sean Owens intercepted a pass and returned it 73 yards.

JT Voelker scored the game’s first offensive touchdown later in the second quarter.

The first half ended with the Olympians holding a 16-0 lead.

The East lead grew to 36-0 before the Wildcats could score in the fourth quarter.

Franklin County’s Ben Wewe scored on a 16 yard pass from quarterback Brett Campbell. Travis Miller scored the team’s second touchdown on an 18 yard pass from Kohl  Holmes. The two point conversion was good to make it 36-14.

The Wildcats finished the season with a 6-6 record, while Columbus East will play for a regional title on Saturday at Evansville Reitz. Reitz is 9-3 on the season.
