The Batesville American Legion Post 271 baseball team dropped two games of a doubleheader to Richmond and then lost two to Lawrenceburg at Liberty Park on Tuesday.
Batesville scored two runs in the bottom of the seventh inning in the opener, but it was not enough. The Tigers won the first game 6-3 and followed up with a 5-2 win in the second.
Chris Drew led off the seventh with a single. Two outs later Shawn Burcham was hit by a pitch and Ben Baumer walked to load the bases. Trevor Stacy then singled to score Drew and Burcham.
Stacy, Brian Beard and Pete Reding each had two hits to lead Post 271. Drew, Baumer, Ryan Miller and Brandon Wallpe each had one hit.
Reding had two hits in the second game to lead the offense, while Chris Meyer, Miller, Tyler Hunter and Beard each had one.
Batesville lost the first game to Richmond in extra innings 8-5. Richmond jumped out to a 5-0 lead, but Post 271 bounced back to tie the game with one run in the third inning and four in the fifth.
The game went scoreless for the next three innings until Richmond plated three runs in the ninth.
Batesville finished with nine hits in the game. Chris Meyer led the way with two hits in three plate appearances. Jason Eckstein, Hunter, Drew, Miller, Baumer, Wallpe and Will Wettering was had one hit. Wallpe scored two times and his lone hit was a solo home run.
Reding got the start on the mound and pitched five innings. Hunter pitched in relief and suffered the loss.
Richmond pounded 21 hits and scored 18 runs to take the second game with ease. Eckstein scored Batesville’s lone run in the third inning.
Wettering, Drew, Eckstein, Austin McIntyre and Patrick Kolks had one hit apiece for Batesville.
