Lady Bulldogs beat South Dearborn
The Batesville High School varsity softball team scored 11 runs in a home victory over the South Dearborn Lady Knights.
The 10 run victory was highlighted by a Billeigh Hankins home run in the third inning to put the Lady Bulldogs on top 2-0.
Batesville followed up with six runs on six hits in the fourth inning to break the game open.
The Lady Bulldogs finished with 14 hits in the game. Hankins, Stacey Kessens and Ashley Wuestefeld each had three hits, while Jenny Meyer collected two.
Devin Moorman pitched six innings for the Lady Bulldogs and struck out six while giving up three hits. Moorman improved to 10-5 on the season
“The last few games we were not getting as much productivity as we would like from the bottom part of our order.,” BHS head coach Dave Butt commented. “We made a minor switch today in the line up and it really paid off.
“To get offense throughout your line up is all we can ask for. This was just the kind of game you hope to have going down the stretch of your season. Now we must maintain this level of play all the way out,” he added.
The Lady Bulldogs improved to 13-6 on the season and 7-3 in the Eastern Indiana Athletic Conference.
The team’s sixth loss of the season was a 4-3 decision to the Milan Lady Indians.
A solo home run by Madison Lamppert in the fourth inning cut the margin to 4-3, but the Lady Bulldogs could not score again.
Moorman pitched for the Lady Bulldogs and gave up only four hits, while striking out 13 Milan batters.
Junior varsity wins
The Batesville junior varsity team posted an 8-4 win over the Lady Knights to avenge a loss just a week ago.
The lady bulldogs took an early 3-0 lead and followed up three more runs in the second inning to extend the lead to 6-2.
