Trustee supports free food store

The Herald-Tribune

BATESVILLE — Dear Editor,

In today’s rough economic climate, food pantries are an invaluable asset to the communities they serve.

The article in the Tuesday, July 3, issue of The Herald-Tribune, dealing with the Batesville Area Ministerial Association’s Food Pantry in Batesville, mentions asking area township trustees to chip in for a new    facility.

I wanted to let everyone know that Laughery Township already supports a food pantry.  The Ripley County Trustees Free Food Store, located at the fairgrounds in Osgood, is a centrally located facility available for all Batesville/Laughery Township residents (This includes areas such as McNair Manor, RomWeber Flats and Village in the Woods).

By joining other townships in the county, it allows us to better leverage the available funds for bulk buying, matching donations and easier distribution.

The Free Food Store is open on the third Monday of each month from 9 a.m. to noon.  Individuals are encouraged to carpool from Batesville to the fairgrounds in Osgood.

If transportation is absolutely not available, or an emergency situation arises, I can be contacted directly to arrange assistance.

Saundra Nobbe,

Laughery Township trustee
