Food pantry challenge underway

Dear Editor,

We are all painfully aware that bad economic times are here. But are you aware that you are in a position to do something to help those in need in your very own community?

There is a remarkable man named Alan Feinstein from Cranston, R.I., who has been working tirelessly to help the hungry by giving away $1 million to antihunger agencies throughout the United States for the past 16 years.

During March and April, your donations will mean additional cash for the pantry thanks to the Feinstein Challenge. All donations received by our pantry from March 1-April 30, including cash, checks and food items, will be counted and recorded.

The local pantry’s share of the million dollar pool will be calculated by the percentage of donations received compared to those of the other participants. By creating this program, Mr. Feinstein has challenged us all to help those in our midst who find themselves in need of assistance.

For the past 10 years, our pantry, with the help of the entire community, has participated in this program. The results have been extremely rewarding. Not only has considerably more food and money been collected, but we received our share of the Feinstein funds as well.

Please help to make this year’s challenge our most successful yet. Donations may be brought to the pantry any Wednesday in March and April from noon-4 p.m. To make arrangements for large drop-offs, please call 932-2622, Ext. 2. Tax-deductible checks may be mailed to Batesville Area Ministerial Association Food Pantry, P.O. Box 383, Batesville, IN 47006.

Are you up to the challenge? More people than you realize will benefit. Thanks for your help. It truly does matter.

Roger Dean,

Batesville Area Ministerial Association president
