-- —

Melissa J. Crum, 48, Sunman, died Sunday, June 1, 2014, at home.

She entered this life March 10, 1966, in Greensburg.

Melissa graduated from Oldenburg Academy, Oldenburg, and also from Marian College, Indianapolis. After graduating from college, she taught at St. Mary's School, Greensburg.

Melissa married Alan Eugene Crum June 6, 1992. This happy union blessed them with three children. As her children expressed, she was a wonderful mother and a great cook! Side by side for many years, she and her husband Alan ran and operated Crum Farms near Sunman. She loved the farm. Melissa actually helped plant the crops, drive the farm trucks and helped with the raising of turkeys, hogs and cattle. Music was another passion of Melissa and Alan's. They both belonged to the Adams Church Boys Plus. For years, they brought joy and comfort to many people in the Ripley County area and many other places in the state either singing with the group or mostly just by themselves. They presented around 80 shows a year and actually had a group following.

She attended Adams Lutheran Church near Batesville, where she had been the organist and also a Sunday school teacher. Family, farming and music were her life. Her beautiful smile and spirit will be so deeply missed by her family and friends!

Survivors include her husband; father Melvin Billman, Sunman; sons Jeffry and Alex Crum, Sunman; daughter Liddy Marie Crum, Sunman; sisters Annette Reeves, Ragley, Louisiana, Amy Caliendo, Wilmington, Delaware, and Julie Billman, Batesville; sister-in-law Lori Crum, Ashland, Ohio; and in-laws Gene and Phyllis Crum, Milan.

Visitation is Wednesday, June 4, from 3-8 p.m. at Adams Lutheran Church. On Thursday, June 5, she will lie in state at the church from 9 a.m. until the 10 a.m. funeral. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Memorials may be given to the church. Arrangements have been made by Neal's Funeral Home, Osgood (
