Harvey Earl Borgman, 89

— Harvey Earl Borgman, 89, Napoleon, died Sunday, March 3, 2013, at his home.

He was born at home near Napoleon April 26, 1923, to Louis and Emma Elizabeth (Tressler) Borgman. On Nov. 4, 1950, he married Frances Luchte, and she survives.

The World War II veteran was a corporal in the U.S. Army 1st Infantry Division, serving in France, Belgium and Germany. He worked for Straber Oil Co. for 43 years and was known as the “smiling oil man,” always dedicated to his customers. He later worked part time for Aggregate Trucking and Excavating. The Napoleon Volunteer Fire Department former member was also past treasurer of the organization. He loved music, gardening and raising vegetables and fruits and was always willing to share with family and friends.   He is also survived by his daughters and their husbands: Patricia and Thomas Peetz, Batesville, Marilyn and Roger Horan, Greensburg, and Sheryl and Bill Ziegler, Columbus; grandchildren Rick, Steven and Clair Peetz, Christina, Craig and Melissa Horan and Brandon and Allison Ziegler; stepgranddaughter Nicole Lehr; and great-grandsons Abraham and Aaron Peetz.

He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers and four sisters.

Visitation is Wednesday, March 6, from 8:30-11 a.m. followed by the service officiated by Sister Shirley Gerth at Meyers Funeral Home. Burial with military graveside rites will be at St. Maurice Catholic Cemetery, Napoleon.

Memorials may be made to the St. Maurice Church Building Fund, Napoleon Volunteer Fire Department, Hospice of Margaret Mary Community Hospital or American Heart Association.
