Sister Jonette Scheidler, 97

Sister Jonette Scheidler, 97, of the Sisters of St. Francis, Oldenburg, died Thursday, March 6, 2014, at the convent. 

Born Dec. 16, 1916, in Millhousen, she was the daughter of Clara (Herbert) and Paul Scheidler.

She entered the convent Sept. 8, 1946, and made her final vows Aug. 12, 1952. 

Sister Jonette was an elementary teacher for 57 years, having mostly taught fifth and sixth grades during that time. Schools she taught at were Little Flower, St. Christopher, Holy Trinity and St. Mark schools, Indianapolis; St. Mary School, North Vernon; St. Mary School, Greensburg; St. Louis School, Batesville; St. Andrew School, Richmond; St. Joseph School, Shelbyville; St. Joseph School, St. Leon; St. Mary School, Rushville; Sacred Heart School, Fairfield, Ohio; and St. Catherine School, St. Louis, Mo. 

Recently, she served as a minister of prayer and praise at the Motherhouse in Oldenburg.

She is survived by her sister, Sister Janice Scheidler, OSF, Oldenburg; and her brother, Anthony Scheidler, Greensburg. 

In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by brothers Norbert, Paul, Maurice and Urban Scheidler.

Visitation is Monday, March 10, from 1-3 p.m. at the Motherhouse Chapel, Oldenburg. Funeral services follow at 3 p.m. with the Rev. John Meyer officiating. The burial will be in the cemetery there. Memorials may be made to the Sisters of St. Francis, P.O. Box 100, Oldenburg, IN 47036 ( Weigel Funeral Home, Batesville, is in charge of arrangements.
