Samuel D. Schoetmer, 22, Oldenburg, died Wednesday, March 27, 2013.
Born March 29, 1990, in Batesville, he was the son of Terri (Fields) Baker and Dwayne Schoetmer. Sam was studying journalism and worked part time as a cook at Ertel Cellars Winery.
A journalism major, his family said his dream job would have been as a writer and illustrator for Rolling Stone magazine. He was very creative and loved to doodle. He was an avid reader of fiction, enjoyed cooking and liked classic rock ’n’ roll with Led Zeppelin among his favorite groups. His family teased him about his taste in television with “Sunny in Philadelphia” and “Family Guy” among programs he watched regularly. His sisters explained he was very witty, but also could have a sharp tongue when he wanted to. Other interests that he dabbled in at times were playing guitar, soccer and skateboarding.
He is survived by his father, Dwayne Schoetmer, Oldenburg; mother and stepfather Terri and Mike Baker, Oldenburg; sisters Kate and Annie Schoetmer, Oldenburg; grandmother JoAnn Schoetmer, Oldenburg; as well as numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.
Visitation will be Wednesday, April 3, from 9 a.m.-noon at Weigel Funeral Home. Funeral services follow at 12:30 p.m. at Holy Family Catholic Church, Oldenburg, with the Rev. David Kobak, OFM, officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the family.
