Lorin C. Johnson, 77

-- — Lorin C. Johnson, 77, Columbus, died at 6:13 a.m. Friday, Oct. 26, 2012, at Seton Specialty Hospital, Indianapolis.

The son of the late Charles Lorin and Dorothy Wilson Johnson was born in Palmer, Mass., Sept. 13, 1935.

He married Janet Frazee, and she survives.

Lorin was an Air Force veteran, serving during the Korean War. He was previously employed at Wonder Bread Hostess Cake for 17 years, and also did construction work. He was founder of Lucky Star Mart convenience store and was a licensed scuba instructor. He was also founder and co-owner of Raft to Rafters Inc. Lorin was a commercial pilot and member of the Aircraft Owners and Pilot Association and Experimental Aircraft Association. Lorin enjoyed fishing, boating, going to air shows and his work. He was an avid animal lover and, above all, enjoyed spending time with his family.

Lorin had a big heart of gold and was a very caring, giving and special man. Once you met him, you never forgot him. His family meant the world to him. He was one of a kind.

He is survived by a son, Randy (Lisa) Johnson, Columbus; daughters Jennifer (George) Lockhart, Seymour, and Amber (Mike) Owens and Tammy (David) Miller, Columbus; grandchildren Tina Lockhart, Katie Douglas, Bill Lockhart, Lisa Critney, Matthew Miller, Micah Owens, Jeremy Johnson and Justin St. John; a brother, Holland (Pat) Johnson, Massachusetts; a sister, Judy Watts, Massachusetts; four great-grandsons; seven great-granddaughters; and one great-great-granddaughter.

Lorin also was preceded in death by a son, Charles Lorin Johnson.

Calling was Sunday, Oct. 28, and will be Monday, Oct. 29, from noon until the 1 p.m. funeral services at Jewell-Rittman Family Funeral Home, Columbus, officiated by Pastor Patrick Galligar. Burial with military honors will be at Garland Brook Cemetery there.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Bartholomew County Humane Society, 4110 E. County Road 200 S., Columbus, IN 47201; Hospice of South Central Indiana, 2626 E. 17th St., Columbus, IN 47201; or St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, 719 5th St., Columbus, IN 47201.
