Roger G. Haessig, 73

Roger G. Haessig, 73, Syracuse, Ind., formerly of Milan and Berne, died Monday, April 7, 2014, at his residence.

The son of the late Loren H. and Alma D. (Roberts) Haessig was born June 13, 1940, in Milan. He married Ellamae Speakman Aug. 21, 1965, in Union Chapel United Methodist Church, Decatur, and she survives.  

The 1958 Milan High School graduate received a bachelor’s degree from Asbury College and a Masters in Education degree from St. Francis College. He taught math at North Judson Middle School for five years and had worked at Gilpin Inc., Decatur, for 26 years. Haessig was a member of Mount Hope Church of the Nazarene, Berne, where he had served as treasurer and Sunday school secretary. 

Also surviving are sons David M. (Kim) Haessig, Milford, and Daryl L. (Susan) Haessig, Syracuse; daughter Karen (Sunu) Thomas, South Bend; brothers Donald and Nelson Haessig, Milan; and nine grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Robert Haessig.

Visitation is Friday, April 11, from 4-8 p.m. and Saturday, April 12, from 10 a.m. until the 11 a.m. service officiated by Pastor David Boots at Mount Hope Church of the Nazarene, 5005 E. County Road 500 S., Berne. Burial is in the church cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the church. Persons may sign the online guestbook and post condolences at www.zwickjahn.com. Zwick & Jahn Funeral Home, Decatur, is assisting the family.
