Mary F. "Babs" Egbert, 97


Mary F. "Babs" Egbert, 97, Batesville, formerly of Elizabethtown, Ohio, passed away Wednesday, Nov. 20, 2013, in Jenkinsburg, Ga.

Born Nov. 19, 1916, in Chicago, she was the daughter of John J. and Harriet (Knudsen) Flannery. 

Mary married George Raymond Egbert August 1942 in Cleveland. She retired from the IRS as a tax examiner and was a member of St. Louis Catholic Church and the Teachers Association of Canada. She also taught Scottish Highland dancing. 

Mary is survived by her sons John Jesse Egbert, Jenkinsburg, Ga., and Edward Egbert, Batesville; and stepchildren Carolyn Duwell, Cincinnati, and Ronald Raymond Egbert, Painesville, Ohio. She will also be missed by 10 grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; one grandchild; her sisters Anne Sullivan and Josephine Creighton; and her brother Edward John Flannery, who was killed in World War II. 

Visitation will be Thursday, Dec. 5, from 6-8 p.m. followed by a memorial service at Meyers Funeral Home. Burial will be Friday, Dec. 6, at Egbert Cemetery, Tiffin, Ohio. 

Memorials may be made to The Hansen Center.
