Wilbur F. Luers, 91

— Wilbur F. Luers, 91, Versailles, formerly of Sunman, passed away Wednesday, March 13, 2013, at St. Andrews Health Campus.

The son of Conrad and Emma (Schierenback) Luers was born near Versailles Feb. 26, 1922.

He was married to Dorothy Pratt Oct. 21, 1943, and she preceded him in death March 29, 1995.

Survivors include two sons: Jerry (Pat) Luers, Morris, and Keith (Mary Ann) Luers, Colorado Springs, Colo.; two daughters: Peggy Luers, Sacramento, Calif., and Freda Luers, Terre Haute; five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; two brothers: Ray Luers, Oklahoma, and Gilbert Luers, Jacksonville, Fla.

He was also preceded in death by his parents; grandson Jason Luers; sister Ruth Narwold; and brothers Robert and Clifford Luers.  

The U.S. Army World War II veteran served with the 6th AART Battalion. He was a farmer, former manager of Ripley County Farm Bureau Co-ops in Osgood and Sunman and had driven a school bus for Sunman-Dearborn and South Ripley schools.

The member of the Versailles American Legion and Versailles Baptist Church and former member of Sunman Community Church had served as a 4-H leader for several years in Penntown and Osgood.

Visitation was Sunday, March 17, at Stratton-Karsteter Funeral Home, Versailles, and is Monday, March 18, from 10 a.m. until the 11 a.m. services at Versailles Baptist Church with the Rev. Mike Cantrell officiating.

Burial will be in Cliff Hill Cemetery there with military rites by the Versailles American Legion. Memorials may be given to Cliff Hill Cemetery or Versailles Baptist American Baptist Youth.
