Romilda M. Moenter, 102

— Romilda M. Moenter, 102, Batesville, died Tuesday, May 21, 2013, at St. Andrews Health Campus.

Born Jan. 11, 1911, in Cedar Grove, she was the daughter of Marie (Wippel) and John Schuck. She married Raymond Moenter Oct. 8, 1938, at Holy Guardian Angels Catholic Church, Cedar Grove, and he preceded her in death Oct. 10, 1976.

She was a homemaker. Faith was important to Romilda. A member of St. Louis Catholic Church, she attended Mass daily. She served as an officer for the St. Elizabeth Society and was a member of the Knights of St. John Ladies Auxiliary.

Along with raising her family, she had many hobbies she enjoyed. For years, she and Ray would put out a large garden and canned what they grew in addition to making homemade jams and jellies. Her family remembers what an excellent cook and baker she was and fondly recalls coming home from school to eat warm butterscotch rolls. Romilda was a competitive 500 player and belonged to a card club for years. Other interests included embroidering, making a baby quilt for each grandchild’s firstborn and her love for flowers. She enjoyed tending to her rose garden and raising African violets. Through the years, she donated many of her violets to the St. Louis Church festival.

She is survived by daughters Judy Schath and Carmen Jones, Batesville; son Terry Moenter, Amarillo, Texas; 11 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.

She was also preceded in death by her parents, infant son Thomas and sister Edith Simpson.

Visitation is Friday, May 24, from 5-7 p.m. at Weigel Funeral Home. Funeral services are at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, May 25, at St. Louis Church with the Rev. Alan Hirt, OFM, officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

The family requests memorials to the Batesville Beautification League or the June and Herb Moenter Music Scholarship Fund.
