Mrs. Bernice M. Peters, 89, a lifelong resident of Decatur County, died Friday, April 11, 2014, at Aspen Place Health Campus, Greensburg. She had been in gradual failing health for the past few months.
Born Aug. 1, 1924, in Decatur County, she was the daughter of William and Gertrude (Vogel) Schoentrup. She was united in marriage to William Peters Nov. 29, 1946, in Aurora, and he survives.
She was a member of Batesville Christian Church, local Greensburg Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5584 and Live N' Learn Home Economic Club. In addition, she helped with a food ministry in New Point. Bernice was an expert seamstress, having worked at Fashion Frocks in her early years of marriage in Hamilton, Ohio. She was a home gardener of fresh fruits and vegetables and led an active, industrious lifestyle. She enjoyed hobbies of quilting and flower gardening.
She is also survived by her four children: William L. (Rose Marie) Peters, Murfreesboro, Tenn., Cynthia M. (Peters) Grote and Kenneth N. (Rita) Peters, Greensburg, and Betsy L. (Tony) Baugh, Napoleon, along with 12 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents and all of her brothers and sisters, Thelma (Schoentrup) Huber, Paul Schoentrup, Dorothy (Schoentrup) Morgan, Robert Schoentrup, Zeta Mae Schoentrup, Irvin Schoentrup, Mary Schoentrup and Karl William Schoentrup.
Visitation will be Monday, April 14, from 3-7 p.m. immediately followed by funeral services at Meyers Funeral Home, Batesville. Burial will be at Kingston Cemetery, Decatur County.
