---- — Sister Catherine Mary Veda, OSF, 92, of the Sisters of St. Francis, Oldenburg, died Sunday, Aug. 18, 2013, at the convent.
Born Dec. 29, 1920, in Middletown, Ohio, she was the daughter of Mary (Pochepan) and Peter Veda.
She entered the convent Sept. 8, 1944, and made her final vows Aug. 12, 1950. Having the Sisters from Oldenburg as teachers during her youth inspired her to join the convent and become a teacher herself. Well respected, she had many students with whom she stayed in touch. After teaching, Sister Catherine semiretired to the Motherhouse as a sacristan. When her mother’s health began to fail, she returned to Middletown to care for her over the next 10 years before finally retiring to the Motherhouse.
She is survived by brothers Edward, Scottsdale, Ariz. and Joseph, Dayton, Ohio; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, sister Catherine and five siblings who died in infancy.
Visitation is Thursday, Aug. 22, from 1-3 p.m. followed by funeral services with the Rev. Pat McCloskey, OFM, officiating at the Motherhouse chapel. Burial is in the convent cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Sisters of St. Francis. Weigel Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
