---- — Janet Eloise Chorpenning, 79, Versailles, died Tuesday, July 9, 2013, at IU Health Methodist Hospital, Indianapolis.
She was born Oct. 21, 1933, in Switzerland County to Russell and Ester (Keith) Kelley. She married Russell Chorpenning Feb. 18, 1961.
Janet graduated from Bethesda School of Nursing, Cincinnati, in 1955. She later received an Ed.D. degree. She taught nursing in the 1960s at Methodist Hospital, Indianapolis, then at Purdue University and Indiana University campuses there. From 1999-2007, Janet served as the chief nursing consultant for the Indiana State Board of Health. After her father started Kelley's Bel-Air Drive Inn Theater, Versailles, in 1950, Janet owned and operated it.
The Delaware Methodist Church and Osgood Lions Club member attended Osgood United Methodist Church. She was involved in music programs at both churches, sometimes as a music leader, actively singing and playing the piano.
Janet loved her family and especially enjoyed watching her grandchildren in their swimming and other sporting events.
Survivors include husband Russell B. Chorpenning, Indianapolis; son Allan and wife Marie, Indianapolis; brother Glen Kelley and wife Jackie, Batesville; sister-in-law Barbara Kelley, Evansville; grandchildren Andrew and Allison Chorpenning, Indianapolis.
She was preceded in death by her parents, brother Ivan Kelley and sister-in-law Janet Kelley.
Visitation is Saturday, July 13, from 11 a.m. until the 1 p.m. service at Neal's Funeral Home, Osgood. Burial is at Cliff Hill Cemetery, Versailles. Memorials: IU School of Nursing, American Heart Association or Delaware Methodist Church.
