Ernest Joseph Bischoff, 87, Sunman, died Thursday, May 8, 2014.
He was born Sept. 23, 1926, in St. Leon to Joseph and Lena (Hoffman) Bischoff. He married Hazel Phyllis Smith May 13, 1950. They resided in Harrison, Ohio, for 16 years, until they moved to Sunman in 1966.
In 1965 Ernest began working at Hill-Rom, Batesville, and retired after 27 years of service. He was a member of St. John's Catholic Church, Harrison, and then St. Nicholas Catholic Church, Sunman. In his free time, he enjoyed playing cards and checkers.
Survivors include his wife; children Sheila Morrow, Greensburg, Thomas (Patricia) Bischoff, Delaware, and Judy (Donald) Stenger, St. Leon; eight grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; daughter-in-law Patty Bischoff, Hamilton, Ohio; brothers Francis (Doris) Bischoff, Blooming Grove, and Wilfred (Betty) Bischoff, St. Leon; sister-in-law Ruth Bischoff, St. Leon; sister-in-law and brother-in-law Ruth and Russell Sauerland, Brookville, Ohio; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by son Ernest Lee Bischoff, grandson Samuel Joseph Brumback, son-in-law Gene Morrow, two sisters and two brothers.
Visitation is Sunday, May 11, from 4-8 p.m. at Cook Rosenberger Funeral Home, 107 Vine St., Sunman, with a rosary service beginning at 3:30 p.m. The funeral Mass is Monday, May 12, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Nicholas Catholic Church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Memorials may go to St. Nicholas School or Decatur County Hospice.
