---- — Ronald L. Effing, 66, Hamburg, died Monday, May 5, 2014, at his residence, with his loving wife by his side.

Born Aug. 14, 1947, he was the son of Loretta (Schrank) and John Effing. He married Diane Wissler Aug. 30, 1968, in Richmond.

Ron was a carpenter and the owner of Effing and Norton Construction Co.

Ron was an avid deer hunter, and he loved to build things, especially new residential home construction and the remodeling of older dwellings. Over the years, he owned several Corvettes in which he loved to drive around. In his spare time, Ron liked to watch old Western movies and go out and eat with his wife. He enjoyed eating homemade pies for dessert. He loved his dogs, especially Jake from years ago to most recently Duke, who was an abandoned dog that he took in.

Ron's true passion, though, was his family, most especially his wife, children and grandchildren, whom he loved dearly. He loved his granddaughter, Alexa, whom he was able to visit and spend time with for the nine short days that she lived. Also, most recently, being able to hold his grandson, Jackson, who was only 1 week old before Ron passed away, gave him great pleasure.

He is survived by his wife; daughter and son-in-law Stacey and Ben Weaver and grandson Jackson Weaver, Brownsburg; son and daughter-in-law Jeremy and Amber Effing, Greensburg; sisters Pauline Murrie, Cincinnati, Rose Rudolf, Fort Wayne, and Marilyn Norton and Linda Luken, Greensburg; and brothers Ray and Bill Effing, Batesville.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his granddaughter, Alexa Weaver; sister Jane Magee; and brother Harold Effing.

Calling will be held Tuesday, May 13, from 4-7 p.m. at Weigel Funeral Home, Batesville. A celebration of life service will follow at 7 p.m. with Linda Rosengren officiating.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Ron Effing Memorial Fund in care of FCN Bank to benefit his grandson.
