James F. Taul Sr., 76

— James F. Taul Sr., 76, Versailles, passed away Monday, Dec. 31, 2012, at Margaret Mary Community Hospital.

The son of the late Hunter and Lois (Ward) Taul was born at Friendship Aug. 15, 1936. He was married to Sharon Vanvolkenberg May 27, 1961, at Osgood Church of the Nazarene and she survives.

Other survivors include two sons: James (Jill) Taul Jr., Lafayette, and Jerry (Stephanie) Taul, Batesville; one daughter: Anita Bough, Linton; nine grandchildren; and one sister: Mary Edith Bullock, Georgia.

He also was preceded in death by his brother, Jesse Taul, and his sister, Betty Bode.

Mr. Taul was a 1954 graduate of Versailles High School. He served in the U.S. Army from 1954-56 with the 100th Tank Battalion, Company B, at Fort Polk, La. He was rated as a sharpshooter, first class gunner and carbine expert. In civilian life, he worked as a CSX Railroad dispatcher from 1960 until his retirement in 1998. Jim was a member of the First Southern Baptist Church, Versailles, Versailles American Legion, Ripley County Voiture 40 and 8 and Cliff Hill Cemetery Board of Directors, and was a former Versailles Fire Department member.

Visitation will be Thursday, Jan. 3, from 5-8 p.m., and funeral services will be held Friday, Jan. 4, at 11 a.m. at Stratton-Karsteter Funeral Home, Versailles, with the Rev. Carter Corbrey officiating.

Burial will be in Cliff Hill Cemetery there with military rites by the Versailles American Legion. Memorials may be given to the First Southern Baptist Church.
