Ruth A. Mergenthal, 91

Ruth A. Mergenthal, 91, Brookville, passed away Saturday, March 22, 2014, at Hospice of Cincinnati, Blue Ash, Ohio.

She was born Jan. 25, 1923, in Oak Forest to Ben and Mary (Lithman) Bruns. Ruth married Frank G. Mergenthal April 7, 1945, in St. Cecelia Catholic Church, Oak Forest, and he preceded her in death Sept. 8, 2005. 

She worked for several years as a cook at Springfield School and farmed with her husband. Ruth was a member of St. Michael Catholic Church, Brookville, and Daughters of Isabella. She loved flowers, gardening and quilting, and enjoyed playing cards and bingo.

Those surviving who will honor Ruth's memory include children Mryna (George) Wissing, Cincinnati, Phyllis (Al) Metz, Shandon, Ohio, Karen (Eugene) Meyer, Brookville, and Jeff (Kathy) Mergenthal, Maple Valley, Wash.; 10 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and sister Leona "Dink" Kalb, Cincinnati. 

Besides her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a son, Brent; a daughter, Anita Hertel; one sister: Rosemary Cowan; and nine brothers: Jerome, Ray, Arnie, Ralph, Cliff, Bill, Howard, Harold and Ambrose "Tim" Bruns. 

After a 3:30 p.m. rosary service, visitation for friends and family will be Wednesday, March 26, from 4-8 p.m. at Cook Funeral Home, 929 Main St., Brookville. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Thursday, March 27, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Michael Catholic Church with Father Sean Danda officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
