Joseph L. Hountz, 82, Sunman, passed away July 16, 2014, at his residence.
Born Sept. 3, 1931, in Ripley County, he was the son of Joseph and Elizabeth Thomas Hountz.
Joseph served his country with the United States Army during the Korean War. On June 14, 1952, he married Viola Riehle at St. Nicholas Catholic Church, Sunman, and she survives.
He was a member of St. Peter's Catholic Church and St. Joseph American Legion Post 464, St. Leon. Joseph retired from Fisher Body after 37 years of service, but his real passion was farming. He also loved to take the family on rides throughout the county with his team of Belgium horses.
Those surviving who will honor Joseph's memory include his wife Viola; children Joyce (Albert Jr.) Kraus, Batesville, James (Karen) Hountz, Guilford, Joseph (Annette) Hountz, Sunman, Paul (Marilyn) Hountz, Sunman, Betty (George) Hoff, North Carolina, Leroy (Kimberly) Hountz, Sunman, Mary Lou (Dan) Doll, Sunman, and Dorita Hodges, Lawrenceburg; 24 grandchildren; and 24 great-grandchildren.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by sister Pauline Oswald, brother David Hountz, granddaughter Anna Kraus and great-grandson Hunter Hoff.
Visitation for friends and family is Saturday, July 19, from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. at St. Peter's Catholic Church. The Mass of Christian Burial officiated by the Rev. Humbert Moster will begin at 1 p.m. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with military honors provided by the St. Joseph American Legion.
