William Andrew Zimmer, 87


William Andrew Zimmer, 87, Brookville, died Saturday, July 12, 2014, at McCullough Hyde Memorial Hospital, Oxford, Ohio.

Born May 19, 1927, in Weisburg, he was the son of the late William L. and Matilda M. (Bohl) Zimmer. On Nov. 1, 1947, he and the former Marjorie M. Muntz were united in marriage, and she survives.

Mr. Zimmer was an active member of St. Thomas Lutheran Church, Brookville, where he had served in various capacities; founding member and past president of the board of directors of Fairbrook Manor; former member of the board of directors of Peoples Trust Co. Bank; and former member of the Brookville Town Council. 

He began his career in 1948 at the former Brookville Sales & Service, purchasing the business in 1960, and operating it as B & L Tractor for many years until his retirement. He was a staunch supporter of the community, Future Farmers of America and the 4-H program. In his leisure time, he enjoyed spending time with family and friends entertaining at his farm, Zimmer Hills.

Besides Marjorie, his wife of over 66 years, he is survived by two daughters: Carol Gosciniak, Vevay, and Cheryl Hall, Temple, Texas; one son, Daryl W. (Gretchen) Zimmer, Brookville; 11 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; as well as one brother: Lester Zimmer, Fort Wayne.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister Dorothy Vogelsang.

Family and friends may visit from 4-7 p.m. Tuesday, July 15, at Phillips & Meyers Funeral Home, 1025 Franklin Avenue, Brookville, and Wednesday, July 16, from 10-10:45 a.m. at St. Thomas Lutheran Church, 823 Franklin Avenue, Brookville. Pastor Ladonna Webb and the Rev. Ralph Easterhaus will officiate the funeral services at 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 16, at St. Thomas Lutheran Church. Burial will follow in Maple Grove Cemetery, Brookville.

Memorial contributions may be directed to St. Thomas Lutheran Church or the William & Marge Zimmer Endowment through the Franklin County Community Foundation.
