Henrietta M. Stein, 93

Henrietta M. Stein, 93, Oldenburg, died Thursday, July 3, 2014, at her residence.

Born April 28, 1921, in Franklin County, she was the daughter of Elizabeth (Nunlist) and Jacob Werner. She married Joseph Stein Sr. Nov. 20, 1941, at Holy Family Catholic Church, Oldenburg, and he preceded her in death April 24, 2004. A homemaker, Henrietta was also a charter member of the New Horizons Service Guild and a member of Holy Family Catholic Church.

Her family referred to mom as the perfect farmer's wife. She loved her cows and could watch them on the hill from the house. Henrietta spent years helping her children with their 4-H activities, from speeches to canning contests to animals. Described as a great cook, "nobody could compete with mom's roast beef," according to her daughter, who also fondly remembers mom's homemade rolls and donuts. Henrietta was well organized and kept excellent records, which in turn kept everything running smoothly. Back in the day, she made most of her children's clothes, enjoyed gardening, read quite a bit and would occasionally work crossword puzzles. Her greatest joy was spending time with her grandchildren.

She is survived by daughters and sons-in-law Jane and George Bohman, Robinson, Illinois, Janet and Bill Deller, Osgood, Edith Stein, Oldenburg, and Esther and Jon Winters, Lynchburg, Virginia; son and daughters-in-law Joe and Millie Stein Jr., Greensburg, and Jim and Jeannie Stein, Bay Port, Michigan; grandchildren Brenda Simmonds, Bonnie Wietlisbach, Jared Stein, Jim Stein, Jeff Stein, Joetta Bohman Goda, Julie Maloy, Sonya Proffitt, Steve Trenkamp, Jessica Winters, Sam Winters, Zoe Winters and Jacob Winters; 20 great-grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; and brother- and sister-in-law Bill and Betty Stein, Batesville.

She was preceded in death by her parents; sisters Sister Rita Werner, OSF, Elenora Kramer, Gertrude Riedeman and Rita Kramer; brothers Joseph, Matt, Leo and Henry Werner; as well as one grandson.

Visitation is Monday, July 7, from 4-7 p.m. at Weigel Funeral Home. A rosary service will be held there at 3:45 p.m. Funeral services are 10 a.m. Tuesday, July 8, at Holy Family Church with the Rev. David Kobak, OFM, officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

The family requests memorials to New Horizons or Margaret Mary Health Foundation Hospice Fund.
