Carl Milton Schwier, 90


Carl Milton Schwier, 90, Osgood, passed away Monday, June 23, 2014, at St. Andrews Health Campus.

The son of William and Evelyn (Snelling) Schwier was born July 16, 1923, in Weisburg. Carl was a U.S. Army World War II veteran, serving in Europe, where he became a Purple Heart recipient. He married Viola Mae Pindell June 7, 1947. Carl retired from Seagrams in 1982 and was a member of Sunman American Legion Post 337.

He is survived by his wife, Viola; sons Andy (Janice) Schwier, Sunman, and Jeffrey (Beverly) Schwier, Batesville; daughters Carolyn (Mike) Hinners, Pierceville, and Carla (Ron) Neuman, Rushville; 11 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; brothers Floyd Schwier, Mount Sinai, Harvey Schwier, Florida, and Bill Ayres, Fairland; sister Luella France, California; half brother Donald Schwier, Sunman; and half sister Martha Clark, Aurora.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his son Marion Francis Schwier and brother Elmer Schwier.

Visitation is Thursday, June 26, from 4-8 p.m. at Meyers Funeral Home, 1150 State Road 46 E., Batesville, and Friday, June 27, from 9-10 a.m. followed by the service officiated by Pastor Tom Frey and the Rev. David Johnston at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Stumke’s Corner, Milan. Burial will follow at St. John Church Cemetery, Hubbles, with military rites by the Sunman American Legion, with assistance from the Indiana Patriot Guard.
