Sister Gerald Mary Gaynor, 84, of the Sisters of St. Francis, Oldenburg, died Friday, April 19, 2013, at the convent.
Born Jan. 23, 1929, in Dover, she was the daughter of Johanna (Fischer) and Louis Gaynor.
She entered the convent Sept. 8, 1946, and made her final vows Aug. 12, 1952. Sister Gerald was a special education teacher for 29 of her 39 years in teaching. Schools she taught at were Our Lady of Mercy, Dayton, Ohio; St. Mary’s Child Center, Indianapolis; and Holy Trinity Learning Center, St. Louis. After teaching, she returned to the Motherhouse to help in the infirmary.
She is survived by her sister Dorothy James and brother Richard Gaynor, Guilford, as well as several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her sister Bertha Lipps and brother Bernard Gaynor.
Visitation is Monday, April 22, from 1-3 p.m. at the Motherhouse chapel, Oldenburg. Funeral services follow at 3 p.m. with the Rev. Carl Hawver, OFM, and the Rev. Jerry Welsh officiating.
Memorials may be made to the Sisters of St. Francis.
