Ronald Howard McCloud, 90, Hanover, died Friday, May 31, 2013, at Norton Hosparus Inpatient, Louisville, Ky.
The son of the late Ernest and Mary Alice Frodrill McCloud was born July 30, 1922, in Putnam County.
The 1940 Mooresville High School graduate was raised in Bedford and attended Earlham College, Richmond. Ron entered the U.S. Army Oct. 30, 1942, and rose to the rank of Private First Class, serving Battery B, 215th Field Artillery Battalion during World War II and was honorably discharged Jan. 3, 1946, at Indiantown Gap, Pennsylvania, receiving the Good Conduct Award, American Theater Service Medal, World War II Victory Medal and EAME Theater Service Medal with Three Bronze Stars.
Ron married Shirley Dalhover April 2, 1965, in Jeffersonville. The Quaker Church member and Hanover Optimist Club charter member retired after 40-plus years of service with the Social Security Administration.
Survivors include his wife, Hanover; daughter and son-in-law Lisa and Thomas Barnett, Batesville; sons Col. Mark McCloud, USAF, and wife Karmen, Scott AFB, and Scott McCloud, Scottsburg; brother and sister-in-law Herbert and Shirley McCloud, Greenwood; grandchildren Karsen and Dacie McCloud and Trent and Mary Catherine Barnett; sister-in-law Mary Jo Armstrong, Louisville; brother-in-law and wife Louis and Betty Dalhover, Girard, Ga.; and several nieces, nephews and other relatives.
A private funeral service officiated by Pastor Scott Elston is Tuesday, June 4, at 11 a.m., at Indiana Veterans Memorial Cemetery Chapel, Madison, with military honors by Jefferson American Legion Post 9.
Morgan & Nay Funeral Centre, Madison, is handling arrangements.
