Anna Mae Schneider, 88

— Anna Mae Schneider, 88, Oldenburg, died Monday, Jan. 21, 2013, at Good Samaritan Western Ridge Hospital, Cincinnati.

Born Aug. 14, 1924, in Oldenburg, she was the daughter of Anna (Geisting) and John Bedel.

She married Wilfred Schneider July 31, 1948, at Holy Family Catholic Church, Oldenburg, and he preceded her in death Jan. 3, 2011.

She worked in the kitchen for the Sisters of St. Francis Convent 10 years. She was a homemaker most of her life and was a Batesville Golden Citizens member.

For years she and Bill raised a huge garden and Anna Mae would can and freeze what they grew. She was also a good cook and her family remembers her fried chicken and homemade goetta among their favorites.

Bill hunted quite a bit and Anna Mae always fixed whatever game he came home with. As a hobby, she played guitar and sang. She preferred country songs and would play at local functions and programs for schoolchildren. “The Paul Dixon Show” was a local daytime variety show on WLWT, Cincinnati, hosted by television personality Paul Dixon from 1955-75. His co-hosts were Bonnie Lou and Marian Spelman. One afternoon while attending the show, the staff found out Anna Mae played and sang and she was asked to come up on stage to perform with Bonnie Lou. It was an experience she cherished and never forgot. Her family also remembers her as being nurturing and taking care of others.

She is survived by her daughter, Carol Ann Schneider, Batesville; sons Stephen, Goshen, Stanley, LaPorte, and Andrew, Greensburg; brothers John Bedel, Greensburg, and Louis Bedel, Cincinnati; 10 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was also preceded in death by sisters Marie Lamping, Clara Wilhelm and Rita Bischoff; and brothers Edmund, Alphonse and Kenneth Bedel.

Visitation is Sunday, Jan. 27, from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at Weigel Funeral Home with a rosary service at 3:45 p.m. Funeral services are at 10 a.m. Monday, Jan. 28, at Holy Family Catholic Church with the Rev. David Kobak, OFM, officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family requests memorials to the church.
