Margie Weigel, 80

-- — Margie Weigel, 80, Batesville, died Tuesday, Oct. 2, 2012, at St. Andrews Health Campus.                                                                        Born Oct. 12, 1931, in Ripley County, she was the daughter of Erma (Volz) and George Braunagel. A graduate of Milan High School in 1950, she married Don Weigel Jan. 22, 1955, at St. Pius Catholic Church near Milan. A homemaker, Margie also worked at Blank’s Drug Store and was a manager at Hardee’s Restaurant. She was a member of St. Louis Catholic Church as well as a past member of the St. Louis School Board, Batesville Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary and an emergency medical technician for the Batesville Rescue 10 Life Squad.

Margie grew up on a farm and fondly referred to it as “down the road near St. Pius Church.” She had many hobbies, which included crocheting, cross-stitching and quilting and always looked forward to her monthly card club date with her friends. A farm girl at heart, she grew a garden and liked cooking and canning what she harvested. Margie enjoyed making potato salad and coffee cakes, but her family all agreed her rhubarb pies, grape and strawberry jellies were the best. What she loved most was spending time with her grandchildren.

Margie is survived by her husband; daughters and son-in-laws Joan and Edward Tuggle, Topeka, Kan., Sue Ann and Michael Williams, Dexter, Mo., and Mary Beth and Timothy Callahan, Hendersonville, Tenn.; son and daughter-in-law Greg and Teresa Weigel, Oldenburg; 15 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her son, William; sister Lillian Billman; and brother George Braunagel.

Visitation is Friday, Oct. 5, from 4-6 p.m. at Weigel Funeral Home. Funeral services are at 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct.  6, at St. Louis Catholic Church with the Rev. Randy Summers officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family requests memorials to the Lillian Kennel Education Fund at St. Louis School or Batesville Fire Department/EMS 10.
