Regina J. “Reggie” Holtel, 85

Regina J. “Reggie” Holtel, 85, Batesville, died Wednesday, Dec. 25, 2013, at St. Andrews Health Campus.

Born Sept. 15, 1928, in Covington, Ky., she was the daughter of Marguerite (Belli) and Carl Jacks. She married Harold “Bud” Holtel Oct. 6, 1951, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Cincinnati, and he preceded her in death June 25, 2013.

Reggie was very proud to have worked for Margaret Mary Community Hospital as a surgical nurse in the operating room before retiring in 1994. She was a member of St. Louis Catholic Church and was a bingo and church festival volunteer. She also volunteered at MMCH and M.D. Anderson Cancer Center, talking to and supporting other cancer patients.

According to her family, Reggie was an excellent seamstress, having made clothing for her daughters when they were young and also was a very good cook and baker, with her Christmas cookies being a family favorite. She loved to golf and play cards, especially bridge and 500 with her grandchildren, and she loved attending her grandchildren’s many activities. Reggie and Bud loved to travel throughout the United States as well as abroad with trips to Disney World and the Finger Lakes with the grandchildren among their favorites. She loved to meet weekly with her “coffee klatch” ladies, taking turns visiting each other’s homes.

She is survived by daughters and sons-in-law Mimi and Robert Ryan, Batesville, Donna and Tom Duffy, Hollis, N.H., Susan Arcy, Dublin, Ohio, and Sharon and Val Berger, Carmel; sister Mary Ann Jacks, Batesville; eight grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

She was also preceded in death by her parents and daughter Mary Angele Holtel.

Visitation will be Monday, Dec. 30, from 9-11 a.m. at Weigel Funeral Home followed by the service at 11:30 a.m. at St. Louis Church, Batesville, with the Rev. Randy Summers officiating. The burial will follow in the church cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association or Batesville United Methodist Church Summer Food Program.
