Russell L. Broughton, 84, formerly of New Trenton, died at The Waters of Batesville Sunday, May 11, 2008.

He was born to Lee and Eller (Smith) Broughton Nov. 19, 1923, in Barbersville, Ky., and married Rosa (Butler) Broughton.

The retired General Electric Co. machinist and farmer was a deacon at First Baptist Church, Harrison, Ohio.

Survivors include a daughter: Helen Butterfield, Hamilton, Ohio; a son: Darrell Broughton, Sunman; six brothers: Buford, Carl, J.B., Charles, Randy and Leroy Broughton; four sisters: Oda Vogt, Viola Mills, Josie Roope and Delora Lawrence; five grandchildren: Sean and Travis Broughton, Shannon Woodruff, Nichole Green and Melissa Linser; and 11 great-grandchildren.

Preceding Broughton in death were his wife; a son: Hurless Broughton; and two brothers: Clyde and Oscar Broughton.

Visitation is Thursday, May 15, from 5 to 8 p.m. at First Baptist Church. The Rev. Ronnie Wolfe will officiate the funeral there Friday, May 16, at 11 a.m. Burial is in Glen Haven Cemetery, Harrison, Ohio. Memorials may be made to the church through John C.
