Sheriff reports on Franklin Co. activity

---- — Two fatal vehicle accidents occurred in Franklin County last month, reported Sheriff Ken Murphy, who has released a monthly report of activity for October.

Deputies responded to 663 calls for service, a 9 percent increase over calls received in October 2012. Among the calls of service investigated were 72 911 hang-ups and accidental dials, 41 traffic stops, 38 property damage accidents, 34 suspicious persons and vehicles, 31 domestic and other batteries, 23 burglaries and thefts, 20 residential and business alarms, seven personal injury accidents and five building and residence checks.

Deputies arrested 54 on these charges: 26 on warrants; 10 for operating a vehicle while intoxicated; three for possession of marijuana or paraphernalia; two each for possession of a controlled substance, battery, resisting law enforcement and disorderly conduct; and one each for burglary/theft/receiving stolen property, minor consumption and/or possession of alcohol, driving while suspended, trespass, public indecency, invasion of privacy and public intoxication.

An average of 53 prisoners were housed in the security center throughout the month, lower than the 75 maximum capacity. Sheriff’s deputies drove 26,525 miles. The transport officer drove 1,561 miles, conducting 17 prisoner transports to and from Department of Corrections facilities throughout Indiana and Ohio. Additionally, deputies conducted two prisoner transports to various medical facilities for conditions that could not be treated by the jail doctor. Eight pieces of real estate were sold at sheriff’s auctions. There were 181 civil process papers served.
