Stayin’ Alive, the Franklin County Local Coordinating Council of the Governor’s Commission for a Drug-Free Indiana, is accepting grant applications for projects and programs that aim to reduce substance abuse problems in the county, said executive director Melinda Brown. Applications, which are due no later than noon Feb. 28, must address the problem statements identified within the state’s approved Franklin County Comprehensive Community Plan.
Leaders at Stayin’ Alive, with the mission to promote a safer and healthier community by reducing the problematic use of alcohol and other drugs, is responsible for allocating county monies received from fees assessed from alcohol and drug related offenders. The nonprofit’s organizers receive proposals, evaluate applications, interview agencies and determine allocation amounts. Monies will be awarded in three categories: prevention and education, law enforcement and treatment.
