Four bands compete Saturday

Four teen bands representing three area high schools will take the stage to compete for top honors in the 10th annual Batesville High School Battle of the Bands, reports organizer Taaron Meyers.

The contest is Saturday, May 3, from 7-10 pm at the Batesville Middle School old gym on Mulberry Street. Doors open at 6:45. Admission is $5. She notes, "The event is a fundraiser for the BHS Music Department and is an all-ages show, open to the public. Concessions will be available."

The bands and tentative performance order: Purdy Brave – Michaela Purdy, Caleb Schwier, Josh Roe, Blake Crain and Haley Winters from Jac-Cen-Del; Regiment 115 – Nick Woolwine, Chris Garlatti, Anthony Back and Evan Zacarias from East Central; Exactly What You Wanted – Peter Heil, Evan Prunty and Christian Hopkins from Batesville; and JC/DC – Blake Crain, Tyler Delay, Derek Powers, Dakotah Ebbine and Josh Roe from Jac-Cen-Del.

Each band will have 20 minutes to play for the audience and a panel of judges. Meyers says, "Crowd response is a factor in ratings, so be sure to come out and support your school and fellow classmates."

The top three bands will be awarded cash prizes. The first-place group also gets the chance to perform a live acoustic set on a Cincinnati’s Class X Radio 88.9. The winning band will be announced at about 9:30 p.m. and will take the stage for an encore immediately following the announcement of winners.
