---- — Friends of Versailles State Park Members are planning the second annual Walk off the Gravy Hike the Saturday following Thanksgiving, which this year is Nov. 30. Walkers will meet at 10 a.m. at the campground overflow parking lot, reports board member Katherine Taul.
Everyone is invited to participate in the hike, which will be at an easy to moderate level. Good hiking shoes, a hiking stick and water are suggested.
In December, the public is invited to the First Saturday Hike Dec. 7 at 9 a.m. starting from the Oak Grove Shelter parking lot.
Rain will cancel both hikes.
According to Taul, “The Friends group has been very active this year, with hikes the first Saturday of each month, as well as several additional hikes and events. Most events are open to the public, but a few special hikes are held each year for members only, such as the ones to old cemeteries within the park.”
Taul and other board members Kea Foreman, Bill Dallman and Jerry Wilson are working on a full schedule of events for 2014, which will be announced in the near future.
