Application period begins for FCCF grants

The Franklin County Community Foundation’s 2014 grant cycle is approaching. Executive director Shelly Lunsford notes, “Our endowment funds have income available to be granted.” Grant seekers’ guides can be found on the Grants page of the Web site www.franklincountyindiana.com.

The foundation makes grants to tax-exempt organizations operating or proposing to operate programs for Franklin County residents. In general, foundation leaders prefer funding start-up costs for new programs, one-time projects or needs and capital needs beyond an applicant’s capabilities and means.

The 2014 available grants for community projects include: General Community Grants, $14,640; Bath State Bank Community Grants, $2,200; M. Horstman Unrestricted Community Grants, $2,000; Captain Charles N. Fox USAF Memorial, $350; Robert & Ethel Crawford Memorial Endowment, $340; MainSource Bank Community Grants, $330; Bob & Marge Seibert Unrestricted Endowment, $160; Franklin County Home & Garden Show Endowment, $310; and the Otto Family Endowment, $500.

Organizations planning an environmental project may apply for the Salt Creek Nature Sanctuary Environmental Grant, $350. Those with a project or program benefitting handicapped residents may apply for the Lloyd R. Ratz Handicap Endowment, $160.

To be considered for funding, each grant seeker must write a letter of intent explaining how the grant is to be used. Letters of intent must be postmarked on or before Aug. 4. Once a letter of intent is received and reviewed, a grant application may be sent to the organization if it is determined the organization is eligible to apply. A grantee seeking a request of $2,000 or less will fill out a one-page application. Those with requests for more than $2,000 will be required to complete longer, more detailed applications. These applications are due Oct. 1.

The FCCF Grants Committee will review applications and select appropriate requests for the grant awards. Grant awards may be combined to meet an organization’s needs. Grant checks will be mailed in November.
