Three people hurt in two crashes

Batesville Police Department officers were called to the scene of an accident Monday, Nov. 4, at about 11 a.m. on State Road 46 at Lammers Pike, said Maj. Mike Benjamin, assistant chief.

The investigation revealed that James Wilson, 49, Batesville, was driving eastbound on S.R. 46 in the left lane hauling a camper. Another vehicle, driven by David Back, 72,Cedar Grove, was traveling east in the right lane. “Back suddenly attempted to turn onto Lammers Pike in front of Wilson’s vehicle,” Benjamin reported. Wilson attempted to avoid hitting Back’s vehicle and, in the process, his truck and camper jackknifed, and Back’s vehicle sideswiped the camper.

A 21-year-old passenger in Wilson’s vehicle was transported to Margaret Mary Health by Batesville EMS 10 for a minor injury. The accident was investigated by Benjamin, who was assisted by Chief Stan Holt.

At about 5:23 p.m. that day, officers were summoned to a crash on State Road 229 about one-fourth mile north of the intersection of County Road 1450 North in Ripley County, reported Chief Stan Holt.

The investigation revealed Michael Wenning, 58, Batesville, was driving northbound when he traveled left of center and collided head-on with a southbound vehicle driven by Kimberly Youngman, 35, Batesville.

Youngman was flown by Air Care from the scene to the University of Cincinnati Medical Center for serious injuries. Wenning was transported by Sunman Rescue 20 to Margaret Mary Health for minor injuries. The accident was investigated by Patrolman Ryan Metcalf. Others assisting on the scene were the Ripley County Sheriff’s Office, Batesville Fire Department, Batesville EMS 10 and Ripley County EMS.
