NARFE members learn about scams

---- — The National Active and Retired Federal Employees Chapter 0813 met March 18 at Ponderosa Steakhouse, Greensburg, according to Secretary Harold DeWitt.

The meeting was opened by President Eva Stone. Kay Hineman led the Pledge of Allegiance and invocation.

John Chapman from the attorney general’s office presented information on scams. The most common ones are for tech support, lottery, phishing e-mails, free trial offers, working from home and home repairs.

The secretary’s minutes and treasurer’s report were read and approved. The legislative, service and other committee reports were given. Membership officer Eva Vanatta reminded everybody that retired military members and their spouses can become members of NARFE. For more information, persons can call her at 765-629-2720.

Vanatta won the attendance prize. Stone was recognized because she was celebrating her birthday and anniversary.

The next meeting is Tuesday, April 15, at 10 a.m. at Ponderosa Steakhouse, Greensburg, with optional lunch following.
