One-third of arrests due to warrants

Franklin County Sheriff’s Department deputies arrested 34 in February, said Sheriff Ken Murphy. As usual, the most, 12, were detained due to warrants.

Five each were arrested in two categories, operating a vehicle while intoxicated, and battery or domestic battery.

Two were arrested for each of three crimes: burglary, theft or receiving stolen property; possession of marijuana; and possession of a controlled substance.

One arrest was made in each of these categories: minor consumption or possession of alcohol, public intoxication, leaving the scene of an accident, driving while suspended, habitual traffic violator and criminal recklessness.

Murphy also released a monthly report of activity for February. Deputies responded to 502 calls for service, which is an 11 percent decrease from February 2013. In addition to one fatal accident, officers investigated 72 property damage accidents and six personal injury accidents.

Deputies made 37 traffic stops and checked out 30 suspicious persons and vehicles. They explored 23 burglaries and thefts, 14 domestic batteries and batteries and 11 residential and business alarm. Officers also checked on 10 business and residential buildings.

An average of 59 prisoners were housed in the security center throughout the month. Additionally, deputies drove 16,629 miles. The transport officer drove 2,247 miles, conducting 14 prisoner transports to and from Department of Corrections facilities in Indiana and Ohio. Additionally, deputies conducted one prisoner transport to a medical facility for conditions that could not be treated by the jail doctor. Two pieces of real estate were sold at sheriff’s auctions and 67 civil process papers were served.
