A half marathon of 13.1 miles seems like a long way, doesn’t it? For many people, walking or running a half-marathon sounds like a goal beyond their reach – but it’s not!
Again this spring, the Batesville Community School Corp., Margaret Mary Health and Southeastern Indiana YMCA are partnering to offer the community the chance to be a part of Team Batesville, a collaborative training group designed to help participants get ready for either the OneAmerica 500 Festival Mini-Marathon or Cincinnati Flying Pig Marathon. Last year, more than 130 area residents, from students to senior citizens, accomplished their goals of walking or running 13.1 miles.
“Again this year, we are giving participants the option of choosing which race they want to take part in – the Flying Pig or the Mini Marathon,” said Andy Allen, Batesville High School principal and marathon runner. “Because both races are held the same weekend, we decided Team Batesville participants could still train together, but take part in whichever race they like best.”
The 38th running of the OneAmerica 500 Festival Mini-Marathon is scheduled for Saturday, May 3, in downtown Indianapolis. For more information, visit www.500festival.com. The Flying Pig Marathon, which takes participants along the streets of Cincinnati, Ohio, and Covington and Newport, Ky., is scheduled for Sunday, May 4. Flying Pig athletes can choose from full marathon, half marathon, 10K, 5K and relay options. For more information, visit www.flyingpigmarathon.com.
By joining Team Batesville, you’ll receive supportive e-mails, information about training opportunities with other Team Batesville members, a shirt to wear on race day, a pasta dinner the Thursday before the races and the ability to conveniently pick up the race packet in Batesville.
