Members of Prell-Bland American Legion Unit 271 met Monday, March 10, at the Veterans of Foreign Wars post with President Marilyn Gausman presiding.
Minutes of the previous meeting were read by Secretary Sally Wilhelm and approved as read. Wilhelm gave the treasurer’s report which was filed for audit.
Due to serious declining senior membership and the economy, the treasury is running low. Wilhelm inquired at the bank about withdrawing some money from the group’s Certificate of Deposit, got the information and explained the process to the members who voted to withdraw a portion and start a new CD.
She reported the membership total was 189. Only three senior members need to pay, but 10 more are still needed for quota. Thank yous were read from the Indiana Veteran’s Home and Gary Neff, the group’s resident there.
The auxiliary provided food for the March 2 Sons of the American Legion shoot but, because of bad weather, did not man the kitchen. The SAL took it over and turned in a nice for the unit. Another shoot was March 16.
Bert Hazelwood reported on the March 9 Boys and Girls Staters meeting at the Legion post. Girls present included VFW delegate Jessica Meer and alternate Chloe Rennekamp and Prell-Bland Unit 271 delegate Hannah Putnam and alternate Kelli Hartman. Gausman, Hazelwood, Sally Widener, Pat Hoegeman and Wilhelm were thanked for bringing snacks for the meeting.
Then the meeting was adjourned, and leftovers were served.
