Rusty Griswolds band will perform March 14

Music lovers can “Journey” back to the ‘80s with Rural Alliance for the Arts members as they present Cincinnati rock band The Rusty Griswolds in concert at Walhill Farm, Batesville, Friday, March 14, from 7:30-11 p.m.

“Concert-goers will have ‘Nothin’ but a Good Time’ while they re-live the ‘Glory Days’ of that decade and ‘Jump’ to the music,” says RAA publicity coordinator Kathleen Bohman.

Bandmates include Steve Frisch, saxophone, keyboards and vocals; Ken Fullan, bass; Eric Schueler, vocals, guitar and trumpet; John Schutte, keyboards and vocals; Richie Terbush, guitar and vocals; and Greg Tulley, drums.

March 14 attendees can expect to hear songs from many bands of that era, including Bon Jovi, 38 Special, Beastie Boys, Bruce Springsteen, REM, The Clash, The Cars, Van Halen, Prince, Poison and The Ramones.

RAA President T.J. Greene strived to offer shows for everyone when he planned the 2013-14 season. “In the fall, we paid tribute to big band and swing music of the 1940s” with the Indianapolis Jazz Orchestra. “It was a big hit. This spring we take a much different approach by paying homage to the all-important musical decade of the 1980s. We thought this would give a chance for people my age to remember days of their youth in middle school. And for some of my friends, they will get to relieve their high school or college days!”

The Rusty Griswolds have been a Cincinnati favorite since they started performing in 1999. The group was voted Best Party/Cover Band seven out of the last 10 years by readers of Cincinnati’s City Beat magazine.

Batesville Community School Corp. superintendent Dr. Jim Roberts has seen them live and suggested to the RAA that The Rusty Griswolds be added to 2014 programming. He reports, “The band is made up of excellent musicians who know how to have a great time. They bring a tremendous amount of energy and enthusiasm to their show and ensure that everyone will go home tired from a night of dancing! The band is well-known in the Cincinnati area and an annual favorite at the Opening Night game for the Cincinnati Reds. We are very fortunate to have The Rusty Griswolds coming to Batesville.”
