The Batesville Herald-Tribune

---- — A total of 35 arrests were made by Franklin County Sheriff’s Department deputies during January, said Sheriff Ken Murphy. Eighteen were detained due to warrants and six were charged with operating a vehicle while intoxicated.

Two were arrested for each of these charges: burglary, theft or receiving stolen property; resisting law enforcement; and disorderly conduct; and one each for sale of a schedule controlled substance, forgery, possession of a controlled substance, neglect of a dependent and operating a vehicle while never licensed.

According to Murphy, deputies responded to 593 calls for service, which is a 22 percent decrease from the 759 calls for service received in January 2013. Among the calls investigated were 132 property damage accidents, 45 suspicious persons or vehicles, 36 residential and business alarms, 19 burglaries and thefts, 17 personal injury accidents, 15 traffic stops, 11 domestic and physical batteries and six business and residential building check requests.

An average of 46 prisoners were housed in the Franklin County Security Center, Brookville, throughout the month. Deputies drove 17,118 miles in January. The transport officer drove 3,405 miles, conducting 22 prisoner transports to and from Department of Corrections facilities in Indiana and Ohio.

Additionally, deputies conducted four prisoner transports to various physicians for conditions that could not be treated by the jail doctor. Three pieces of real estate were sold at sheriff’s auctions. There were 78 civil process papers served.
