---- — Property owners and outdoor enthusiasts may be interested in a free class sponsored by Friends of Versailles State Park on trail building. “Building Fun and Sustainable Trails” will be led by Guy Schwering Saturday, Feb. 22, at 10 a.m. starting at the park’s group camp recreation hall.
“The same trail building rules apply, whether it’s hiking, biking or horse trails we’re building,” Schwering explained. He has been very active in working on VSP trails.
The day will begin with about an hour of classroom instruction, then the class will move outside for some practice doing actual trail layout and flagging. After lunch, Schwering will lead the group in some hands-on trail maintenance to improve and eliminate eroded areas on the park’s hiking trails. Tools will be provided; volunteers should wear sturdy boots and gloves. Those who are staying for the afternoon session should bring a brown bag lunch.
Attendees will be informed enough to create trails on their own property, or volunteer for the park or other parks that need trail work done.
