One juvenile, 16, and four adults between 18-20 were cited and released for underage drinking at the Prell-Bland American Legion post in Batesville this past weekend, reported Ripley County Sheriff Tom Grills.
They were released because although breath alcohol content tests showed the presence of alcohol, levels were low enough the five were not considered intoxicated, he explained.
One 19-year-old female was transported by Batesville EMS 10 from that location to Margaret Mary Community Hospital with a medical issue just before midnight Friday, March 1, and that’s when the Batesville Police Department was notified and called the Ripley County Sheriff’s Office to respond as the party was outside of city limits, Grills said.
“The American Legion was rented for a birthday party,” according to Grills. While RCSO deputies and Batesville officers were arriving and securing the area, the two people allegedly responsible for the party fled. They are being investigated for contributing to the delinquency of minors, according to Grills.
