Thefts still most common Batesville crimes

The Batesville Police Department July report shows 51 primary offense incidents, according to CrimeStar Law Enforcement Records Management System data.

Last month, there were 14 reported thefts, the most common offense. Officers checked out four suspicious activities and three cases each of mischief and nonmoving violations. They also were asked to check on the welfare of three individuals.

Two incidents in each of these categories were reported: fraud, intimidation, operator never licensed, operating a vehicle with a blood alcohol content of .08, dispute and warrant service.

The monthly list also contained one of each of these problems: battery, receiving stolen property, invasion of privacy, possession of a controlled substance, possession of paraphernalia, public intoxication, illegal possession or consumption of alcohol, driving while suspended with a prior, leaving the scene of a property damage accident, operating vehicle while intoxicated, supplemental case report and investigating a death (which was natural causes, according to Chief Stan Holt).

Officers helped at 24 vehicular accidents and investigated 13 personal crimes and five property crimes. They handled many complaints – 17 about animals, 12 about traffic, three about fireworks and two about parking.
