Members curious about grant opportunity

— The Oldenburg Town Council had a half-hour meeting March 4, but covered a lot of ground in that short time.

Member Dennis Moeller said, “Franklin County has been getting $500,000 from Lawrenceburg, thanks to the riverboat revenue. However, they (Lawrenceburg officials) are unhappy with how the county allocates it. It’s a little one-sided to the county itself. The money went to roads and infrastructure.

“Lawrenceburg wants to start a grant program to divvy up the $500,000 in the county .... pushing toward employment or economic development.

“I put a letter together for the commissioners on behalf of the town, asking them to give us guidelines on how it works and the timing.”

The other two members agreed it was a good idea.

Moeller also said a Southeastern Indiana Recycling District representative asked about the possibility of setting up a place in town where people can bring their recyclables. “They want a central point where everyone can come, even rural residents.” SEIRD officials will try to approach commissioner Tom Wilson about the possibility of setting up something at the county garage just outside of town.

In other news, members are looking for persons to bid on a grass mowing contract, which would include mowing and weed eating plus trash and tree branch removal every time work is done. Bidders must provide their own equipment and fuel. For more specific information, interested persons can contact Moeller at 934-5462 or 812-212-3163. All bids must be submitted by Friday, March 22.
