Area residents are encouraged to attend an Arbor Day ceremony planned by the mayor’s office and Rotary Club of Batesville Wednesday, May 8, at 5 p.m. in between Fifth Third Bank and the former Sav U More building.
Carrie Tauscher of the Indiana Department of Natural Resources will attend to present the city with the official Tree City designation along with street signs, an award plaque and flag.
Five trees sponsored by the Rotary club; Interact Club, a Rotary-sponsored youth group; Batesville Main Street; Mayor’s Youth Council; and the Batesville Beautification League will be planted in the large green space there.
“All of these groups have been involved in improving the esthetics of the community through efforts in downtown,” said Mayor Rick Fledderman. This will be the third year Rotarians have sponsored an Arbor Day event.
