— After opening 170 stores this year, O’Reilly Auto Parts officials will open one in Batesville at the former CVS building, 100 State Road 46 E., in late January, reported Greg Sims, district manager, Columbus.

Eight to 10 workers will be hired initially. That number could grow to 15 full- and part-time employees.

Headquartered in Springfield, Mo., since 1957, “if we feel there’s enough business,” real estate consultants look in specific locations. Sims said officials have been hunting here for over a year.

According to him, “We strive for customer service ... it’s bar none.”

Sims spoke Oct. 4 after a variance to allow a 20-foot-tall sign instead of the maximum 16-footer required by the city was granted by the Batesville Board of Zoning Appeals.

The new business will use the same frame installed by CVS. The sign’s size, 6 by 10 feet, complies with the city ordinance. After getting the approval, he said, “We’re excited.”
